Ankylosing spondylitis

Ankylosing spondylitis

Ankylosing spondylitis is a type of arthritis that causes pain in the lower back. Symptoms, including back pain and a stiff back, may come and go. Over time, the vertebrae in the spinal cord can fuse and become hard (ankylosis). Exercise is one of the best ways to reduce pain and maintain flexibility. Pain relievers and other medications also help.
